Iconic Restaurant In Gare de Lyon - Le Train Bleu

Le Train Bleu is a historic and iconic restaurant located inside the Gare de Lyon railway station in Paris. Originally built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, it opened in 1901 under the name Buffet de la Gare de Lyon. The building was designed by architect Marius Toudoire, who also oversaw the station’s main facade.

Famous for its opulent Belle Epoque and Art Nouveau interior, Le Train Bleu is lavishly decorated with gilded moldings, crystal chandeliers, and ornate frescoes. The ceiling and walls feature 41 monumental paintings created by renowned artists of the time, each depicting landscapes and scenes from various regions of France served by the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranee railway.

In 1963, the restaurant was renamed Le Train Bleu, paying homage to the legendary luxury sleeper train that operated between Paris and the French Riviera from 1868 until 1972. The restaurant was officially declared a historical monument in 1968, recognizing its cultural and architectural significance.

Today, Le Train Bleu remains a symbol of timeless French elegance—serving refined cuisine in one of the most breathtaking dining rooms in Paris.
