Small Town Island Charm - Block Island, RI
A trip to Block Island begins with the ferry ride over—wind in your hair, the salt in the air, and seagulls gliding overhead. Just thirteen miles off the coast of Rhode Island, this tiny island feels like a quieter, more scenic version of coastal New England. Only seven miles long and three miles wide, Block Island offers the perfect mix of natural beauty, seaside charm, and a wonderfully unhurried pace. It’s the kind of place that invites you to breathe deeper.
You can bike along rolling backroads, take in the view from a windswept cliff, or simply sit by the shore and listen to the waves. Whether you're visiting for the day or settling in for a longer escape, Block Island has a magical way of making you feel far removed from the hustle—despite being just a short ferry ride away.
And the pace? Instantly noticeable. Bikes outnumber cars, and flip-flops might as well be formalwear. You won’t find chain stores or neon signs here—just mom-and-pop shops, beachy cafes, and that laid-back, barefoot energy that makes you want to stay awhile.
The island’s architecture is part of its charm. Block Island’s buildings are cohesive without being uniform, telling the story of a place that values history, simplicity, and harmony with nature. From weathered shingled cottages tucked behind stone walls to grand seaside hotels with wraparound porches, every structure feels like it belongs—like it’s been there forever.
This is what caught my eye - I hope you enjoy!
