Making Chocolate Since 1819 - Cailler Chocolate Factory Broc, Switzerland
Cailler is a Swiss chocolate brand founded in 1819 by Francois-Louis Cailler in Vevey, and it holds the distinction of being the oldest still-existing chocolate brand in Switzerland. The company remained independent until 1929, when it was acquired by Nestle — but its heritage and traditions remain very much its own.
When we got off the bus outside Maison Cailler, built in 1898 in the village of Broc, the very first thing that greeted us was the unmistakable aroma of chocolate drifting through the air. It’s the kind of scent that instantly shifted us into “chocolate factory” mode even before we stepped inside.
Once inside, the experience blends history and storytelling exhibits, walking us through the origins of the company, the evolution of the Cailler brand, and the sourcing of cocoa, and an up-close look at the craft of chocolate-making — the techniques, the machinery, the artistry.
Our tour ended happily in the tasting room, where we sampled a wide range of Cailler chocolates fresh from the factory line.
