Site Of Napolean’s Coronation - Notre Dame Paris

Rising from the small island of Île de la Cité in the heart of Paris, the cathedral feels less like a building and more like a living witness to history. Street musicians play nearby, the riverboats drift past, and suddenly you’re standing before one of the most iconic examples of French Gothic architecture in the world.

The facade has three grand portals carved with biblical scenes so detailed they feel like stone lace. Above them sits the famous rose window — a kaleidoscope of stained glass that seems to glow even on cloudy days. And then there are the gargoyles: dramatic, slightly mischievous figures perched high above the city as if keeping watch over Paris.

One inside the heavy wooden doors, and the noise of Paris fades and light filters through stained glass, casting jewel-toned reflections across the stone floor. The ceilings soar so high, supported by elegant ribbed vaults. Even if you’re not religious, there’s something deeply grounding about the space.

Taking a slow walk around the nave there is the flickering candles, the quiet visitors sitting in reflection, and the subtle scent of centuries-old stone. Every corner holds a detail — a sculpture, a chapel, a fragment of history.

Yet even in damage, after the devesting fire in 2019, Notre-Dame stands as a symbol of resilience. Restoration efforts have brought renewed life and an added sense of appreciation. It’s not just a monument — it’s a story of survival, craftsmanship, and collective devotion.

This is what caught my eye - I hope you enjoy!
