George & Martha’s Place On The Potomac - Mount Vernon
Situated on a bluff overlooking the Potomac River, Mount Vernon welcomes visitors with breathtaking views and a sense of timelessness. It's easy to imagine George Washington standing on the piazza, looking out over the water just as he did more than two centuries ago. The peaceful setting alone is worth the trip.
The mansion is the heart of the estate. Built in the 18th century, its wooden exterior was cleverly finished to resemble stone, giving the home an elegance that reflects Washington's attention to detail. Walking through the beautifully furnished rooms offers a glimpse into the daily lives of George and Martha Washington, while knowledgeable guides share stories that bring the house to life.

Winding paths lead through colorful gardens, a working farm, the blacksmith shop, stables, kitchen, smokehouse, and other outbuildings that once supported one of Virginia's most productive plantations.
