Named France’s Favorite Village - Eguisheim
Eguisheim is often described as a storybook village, known for its charming medieval streets and brightly colored houses. It’s the kind of place where you constantly find yourself stopping, simply to look around and take everything in. Once a fortified settlement, the village remains deeply rooted in its medieval past. The village’s concentric streets curve gently like soft ribbons. Rather than following a typical grid, Eguisheim spirals outward from its medieval core, creating the delightful sensation of wandering in circles—in the best possible way.
Surrounding the remarkably preserved village are vineyards—literally. Step beyond the last row of houses and you’re suddenly among neat lines of Riesling and Gewürztraminer vines, stretching toward the foothills of the Vosges Mountains.
Within the village, family-run wine cellars welcome visitors for tastings. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and personal. More often than not, you’ll find yourself speaking directly with the winemaker or someone whose family has tended these vines for generations.
